Album Time: Nevermind by Nirvana

What’s up guys? Shiningbind here with another weekly episode here on Shiningbind Band Talk. If you have a moment, please take that moment by going to any of the social media platforms we are on and giving us a follow @shiningbindbandtalk. This latest episode is an album we are all quite familiar with, especially during the grunge era. Yes, we are talking about Nevermind by Nirvana. Let’s dive in shall we?

So Nevermind is the second studio album from Nirvana as it was released on September 24th, 1991. It was Nirvana’s first release on the DGC label. The music has that R.E.M feel along with The Smithereens, Pixies, etc. At least according to Kurt Cobain himself. However, it was fresh and new to the audience as the music can give off that vibe of anger and hatred. However, it can get the blood pumping, especially back in the day when grunge was on the rise. Moreover, the music is a more complex sound and heavier than the simplistic music from the glam era. In fact, that was one of the main reasons Glam Metal was declining in popularity where bands like Soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, etc. introduced something new to the audience. In a way, Nirvana was among the titans of grunge music.

Nirvana has branched out not just music wise, but as a band in general, especially after Kurt Cobain had committed suicide. Nowadays, many out there find Nirvana to be overrated, but as a person who has grown up with their music, they will still be an iconic band in my eyes, especially when their sound is eye catching and distinct enough where If one here’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, the intro has that sound where one found identify the song. Plus, a lot of their music is based on life stories and events which many can relate to.

I remember seeing the album cover of Nevermind, I was in awe with the art on the cover where it presents a baby underwater, chasing a dollar bill. Coming from a person who didn’t know much about Nirvana back in the day, the album cover always grabbed my attention. Even to this day, it still does.

Overall, I give this album a 10 out of 10 because it’s quite a unique sound, it’s relatable, and plus, they have branched out, making them an iconic band. Definitely check them out if you haven’t. Anyways that’s all for now, until next time on Shiningbind Band Talk. Peace Out!
