SONG OF THE WEEK: Hold Back the Day by Devildriver

What’s up guys? Shiningbind here with another episode of Shiningbind Band Talk. If you have a moment, please take a moment by hitting the follow button on any of the social media platforms we are on @shiningbindbandtalk. This episode is about this insane metal band known as Devildriver as we are about to dive into the song, Hold Back the Day. Let’s dive in shall we?

Hold Back the Day is a song by Devildriver off of the album, The Fury of Our Maker’s Hands. It is the fourth track off of that album. Let’s start off on how wild the sound is. The sound is quite insane where the drumming is very complex oriented. The opening draws my attention, especially because it gives off that dark and horrific vibe. I have listened to other Devildriver songs, and personally, they don’t grasp onto me like this song does as it has riffs that are quite outside the box where it blends well with the sound and even fits the lyrics. Speaking of lyrics, let’s dive deep into that.

The lyrics can have multiple meanings where it’s just more than just religious beliefs or worshipping Satan. This song can also represent the death of a loved one or life after death, and how one reacts to it. It’s quite a unique song with a very open story about how one views it. As they always say, the sky's the limit where it can go multiple ways instead of just one linear story. Also, let’s not forget the vocal sound as it gives a lot to be able to give off that growl sound. I have tried growling, but it wasn’t in the cards for me. It takes a lot of talent to do, and kudos to the front man. It’s insane.

Overall, I give this song a 10 out of 10 because it’s an open book where the song can tell multiple stories and meanings. Moreover, the complex and adrenaline rushing sound of the drums as well as the very heavy guitar gives that distinct sound. Once again, it’s one of the very few death metal songs I listen to. Anyways, that’s all for now. Until next time on Shiningbind Band Talk, peace out!
