What’s up guys? Shiningbind here with another episode of Shiningbind Band Talk. If you have a moment, please take that moment by hitting that follow button on any of the social media platforms we are on @shiningbindbandtalk. This week’s episode brings back memories of my own as I grew up on this band known as Korn. Today, we are going to dive into the song Shoots and Ladders. Let’s dive in shall we?

The song Shoots and Ladders is quite an interesting song because I’m sure growing up, we know a lot of the nursery rhymes and how dark they are behind the poems and such. The thing I love about this song is how they mashed up the nursery rhymes into one big song. The song starts with the Ring around the Roses bit. Well, going back to the nursery rhyme itself, that rhyme talks of the Black Plague behind the happy feeling of the rhyme. Some people out there could be unaware how dark these rhymes were growing up. I personally think when the band mashed them up, the message they might send out is the fact of how society can be as a whole. Yes, the world can be a scary place, but in the end, we just learn to live our lives in it.

Moving onto the sound, the sound itself is quite intense and complex, especially when they play so low. For those who don’t know, Korn plays in drop F. Hell, when they play that low, I can hear the booming of the bass playing. Moreover, even before the song plays and gets heavy, the thing that stands out are the bagpipes in the beginning of the song which gives off that unique sound, especially when I have heard that bagpipes are extremely hard to play where one would need insane lung power for it. Despite the fact they are Nu Metal which unfortunately had died out today, one can never forget the complex sound of Korn.

Overall, I give this song a 9 out of 10 because of all the Nu metal bands I heard, I think Korn stands out the most, especially with the playing of the bagpipes. Also, the mashed up nursery rhymes in the lyrics is a smart move. I do recommend it to friends and family, so be sure to give it a listen. Anyways that’s all for now until next time on Shiningbind Band Talk. Peace out!
