What’s up guys? Shiningbind here with another episode of Shiningbind Band Talk. If you have a moment, please take a moment by going to any of the social media platforms we are on and give us a follow @shiningbindbandtalk. This week, we are diving into a song by the Swedish rock band, Ghost called Dance Macabre. However, I am sure some of you are wondering who Ghost is.
Formerly known as Ghost B.C. In the US, Ghost is a sweadish rock band that formed in Linkoping in 2006. In 2010, they released a three-track demo along with a 7-inch vinyl called Elizabeth. Seven of the eight group members are nameless ghouls where they are all identical. Frontman, Tobias Forge, seals his identity behind the character, Papa Emeritus. Anyways, let’s dive in now.
Dance Macabre is the second single off of Ghost’s album Prequelle. It topped the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart in February of 2019. And when I heard it, it had quite a ballroom dance feel on steroids. Moreover, it gives off that spiritual meaning like from back in the medieval days. The sound of it is quite complex and unique where it’s very distinct where it can capture the attention of listeners. Overall, it gives off that dance music vibe. It’s more diverse which according to Forge, he felt inspired by Queen’s diversity in music. Some people who haven’t heard it thoroughly may think it’s a love song. Wrong, it’s about the Black Plaque where if some of you know your history, the Black Plague wiped out half of Europe around the 13th century. So in reality, it’s a death song. The lyrics talk about those who lived at that time dealt with it and lived their last moments fully until death. However, if you have noticed the entire album, it’s basically a concept album about the Black Plague.
Overall, I give this song a 10 out of 10 because it’s very complex and diverse. Moreover, it fits well with the overall concept. I definitely do recommend this to friends and family. Anyways, that’s it for now, until next time on Shiningbind Band Talk. Peace out!
