SONG OF THE WEEK: I Love Rock N Roll by Joan Jett

What’s up guys? Shiningbind here with another episode of Shiningbind Band Talk. If you have that free moment, please take a moment by going on either Facebook or Instagram and hitting that like and follow button @shiningbindbandtalk. This latest episode is another Song to analyze. Yes, it’s an all time favorite by Joan Jett — I Love Rock n Roll. However, I am sure some of you out there are wondering who Joan Jett is.

So Joan Jett is a multi-talented American artist. She is not only a singer and songwriter, but she is also a composer, record producer and actress. She is the front woman of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Moreover, she became big, especially back then in the 80s where women were seen more as groupies than musicians. Along with female artists like Joan Jett who are well known are Lita Ford and Heart. Anyways, let’s dive into the song, I Love Rock n Roll.

I Love Rock n Roll is surprisingly actually a cover that Joan Jett did because the song was originally written by Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker back in 1975. Joan Jett's rendition charted Number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Also, it became the number 3 song in 1982. The single was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Despite it being a cover, I feel Jett’s rendition of it is a lot catchier to the ear as well as pump up that adrenaline. The song has a simple sound, but with that unique beat for the intro is what grabs the audience in, especially for those wanting to express their love for rock. It makes me always want to turn up the volume on my phone. So in a way, Joan Jett’s rendition of I Love Rock and Roll is the original song on steroids.

Overall I give this song an 8 out of 10 because it has that distinct sound where it makes it catchy and gets the crowd going to show their love for rock and roll. I would have given it a full 10, but remember it is a cover that she did. However, it’s a cover we all know and love. Until next time on another episode of Shiningbind Band Talk, peace out!
